I started this yesterday and have done some more work on it today. It's not finished yet but I thought I'd post a progress pic. I'm attempting to use burnishing on this one. I've been over it once so far and then added some more layers of colour. Guess it looks like an onion! I haven't added a shadow (not yet anyway!) as I didn't really like the shadow on my apple drawing.
I've been having a look round the web at some coloured pencil art. Some of it just makes me want to chuck my pencils in a corner and forget about even trying. I followed an interesting trail yesterday on the web looking at some coloured pencil work and then ending up searching for hyper-realism. The work on Jason de Graaf's website blew my mind! His work is in acrylics and I think it is hard to believe some of the images are not photographs. I'm pretty sure I'd never have the patience for this nevermind the skill required. I must admit I'm not totally sure about hyper-realism. Some of the images I've looked at are SO much like photographs that I'm not really sure I see the point. I really like Laura Fantini's work - it's amazing and very realistic but you can still see that it isn't a photograph.
A few other links worth a look (I had to stop looking - there is so much inspiring work out there!)
Johannes Wessmark uses coloured pencils with watercolour, gouache, acrylics
Jo Goudie I really like her birds!

you should check out Ann Swan... I love her book and it really helped me improve my skills xx

I'm loving how the colored pencil pieces are turning out. You have far more patience for colored pencils than I do! And I feel you on the "chucking the pencils" part- there is some amazing talent out there can be really intimidating at times, no? Love your pieces though, so don't stop! ;-)
