I finished my apple this morning. Not really very happy with the shadow part (even though it does look pretty much like the actual shadow!) but I am really pleased with the apple. I've only done a couple of things with coloured pencil (red shoes, and some flowers both done using Inktense pencils). I did these without really looking up any 'how to's' and I worked from light to dark. In the book I bought yesterday it says you should work from dark to light, gradually layering on lighter colours so I did and I think it does work better. Not sure whether the paper I used is ideal - will have to experiment with some different types. I could really feel the waxiness on the surface when I went back to working on the drawing this morning. I think I'm going to try burnishing next.
I used a heavyweight smooth surface cartridge paper and Derwent Artists Pencils (set of 24).

I love using coloured pencils and though I use polychromos mainly because I found the derwent's build up too quickly... this is great and you have captured the shape and depth perfectly ... happy AEDM xx
