A super early start today to catch a bus to Palma in time to get the first train to Soller. There weren't many people on the train (8.00am was quite early I guess!). The journey was really enjoyable. The train tracks go along the road at the start of the journey in Palma and (apart from the section through the 'suburbs' of Palma which is not so scenic!) takes a very scenic route through the countryside.
I managed to get a photo of the early morning mist in this 'valley' - it was a really spectacular view. I really wished I could have stopped the train and had time to take a proper photo!
When we arrived in Soller we took the tram down to the port and had a wander round.I took this photo of the tram a bit later in the day. It's packed! Soller and the Port was very popular.
We'd arrived a bit too early really and had to wait for a cafe to open so we could get some breakfast. Ensaimada Crema and a coffee. Ensaimada are yummy!
The Port seemed like a really nice area with lots of places to eat. I think it would be a nice place to spend a few days relaxing :-)
After a good look around the Port we caught a tram back to Soller and had some lunch. Soller is famous for its oranges and we made sure we sampled one of the special orange desserts (it was very nice!). Orange sorbet and orange juice and an orange tram too! Not a great photo as we were sitting in the shade and the tram was really bright.
The tram passes between various cafes in Soller
Getting the train back was interesting. There were so many people waiting to board the 18:30 train and it was a real crush when everyone tried to get on. Not much fun! There is a train at 14:00 and then that's it until 18:30. Not great really because 14:00 is a bit early to be leaving. Still, we all managed to squeeze on!
