It's now a little over 9 weeks since my leg breaking incident. I have ditched the crutches inside now - apart from first thing in the morning when I'm a bit stiff - and I'm only using one outside for a bit of balance. More importantly - I drove my car last night :-) Just went to our local town. We walked to Costa Coffee and enjoyed a nice ice cool drink (without crutches as I had A to lean on if required!) and then walked round Waitrose and did a bit of shopping.
So - today I decided to go out for a short trip to butterfly world. It's not very big but I didn't want to walk too far so it suited me fine! It was very hot and humid inside the butterfly house so I didn't linger in there for too long. I could feel myself melting in the heat! I only took my 105mm macro lens with me. I love this lens - it's very sharp - but I always struggle to get really good macro shots with it. Guess I need to practice more.
There is a large iguana in the butterfly house - she didn't move more than a couple of inches whilst I was there. She has amazing eyes (click images for slightly larger version).
This one was shot at f22 and a nice high ISO of 2800 - not a setting I could have got away with on my old D70! The texture on these creatures is incredible.
This butterfly was amazing - it looked just like a leaf when it's wings were closed
and here it is with wings open
An empty chrysalis
Feeding time
Last but not least - they have a few meerkats in an enclosure outside. They were mostly crashed out trying to stay cool!
